Using Springer’s LNCS Layout

Here are the steps taken to add the LNCS layout to the local LyX installation:

  1. Download the llncs2e.zip package from Springer’s LNCS author site.
  2. Unzip, and copy the folder to the local TeX installation.
    • For Mac, this is at ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex
    • For PC, this is at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MiKTeX\2.7\tex\latex
  3. Update the local TeX installation.
    • For Mac, run “texhash” from a shell.
    • For PC, run MikTex Settings. Press “Refresh FNDB” under General. Then, possibly, “Update Formats”.
  4. Reconfigure LyX. Quit and restart.

When using the LNCS layout, be careful with Theorem etc packages, as they might interfere with LNCS (e.g. “Command \proof already defined”).

      Hello,

I have tried your 4-step solution to add the LNCS layout and LyX is still saying that the llncs.layout is not usable. Can you please help me? I am running Windows XP with LyX 1.6 MikTek 2.8 Ghostscript, Ghostgum and TeXnicCenter.

Thanks for the time and consideration!
      Sincerely,
      Ryan Ramirez

      Hi Ryan,

It had been a while since I last tried this, plus I run LyX under OSX. Sorry I can’t be or more help. Good luck.

    • Hi Kam,

Thanks for your very useful post. It really helped me after several failed attempts and searching on different websites including the lyx official site. I am also using MikTek 2.8 on windows vista and I didn’t find any problems with your tips.

      Great Job.

      Cheers. 🙂

Thanks so much! Had tried so many other suggestions, none worked. You’re the best! 😀

This really works. I’m using MikTex 2.9 on windows vista.

    • You’re my hero! Precise instructions without redundancy. That’s how it has to be.

Confirmed with LyX 2.0.5.1 on Miktex 2.9 and Windows 7. Because some paths changed since XP, I extracted the llncs2e.zip to C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\tex\latex\lncs. Use C:\Program Files (x86)\MiKTeX 2.9\tex\latex\lncs if you’re on a 64-bit Windows with a 32-bit Miktex. Requires admin privileges though. Maybe someone other posts the correct user path for Windows 7.

      Keep on rockin’, kf!
